There are certain elements to listing a home that will either attract buyers or cause them to overlook a really great property with huge potential. One of those elements is an outdated bathroom. It does not always take a full renovation to update a bathroom and make it visually appealing to buyers. Below is a perfect example from my recent listing of an old and tired bathroom in dire need of some updating. On a very small budget we were able to transform this room without having to do a complete renovation, something that the new home owners will likely do to satisfy their own sense of style. In the meantime, it will bring buyers through the door and its more appealing appearance will help them to see the future potential in the space.
This bathroom was completely outdated with the original builder fixtures, wallpaper, tiles and cabinets from 1966. One of the biggest transformations was removing the groovy flower wallpaper and painting it a soft neutral grey. This alone completely transformed the space. We removed the sliding glass door shower enclosure which immediately opened up the room. Adding a classic white shower curtain and leaving it open was a strategic decision we made so buyers could see the original pink tile and bathtub without trying to hide it. We removed the old toilet and pink sink and fixtures and updated with new white ones. The original countertop and cabinet were kept and are looking much more appealing after the new sink and fixture installation. The floor was updated with some easy click and lock self install floor tiles in a subtle marble grey colour. The finishing touches were what created the “Wow” factor, a new mirror and industrial light fixture. Voila! The update is complete!
